Quick Hits: Thoughts on Raw 25 and Enzo Amore

So one of the most anticipated episodes of Monday Night Raw in the history of the series is in the books and I’m just over here like… meh. To make matters worse, WWE just avoided another PR nightmare by [finally] firing the real one, Mr. All Day, Enzo Amore.

I’m probably not going to have an opinion that hasn’t already been expressed about Enzo – dude was a cancer in the locker room, but they kept him around because he was a license to print money. We all know the stories: he had his own locker room because no one wanted to be around him, Roman Reigns (of all people) kicked his ass off a tour bus because he was being obnoxious, he was constantly on TMZ running his mouth, and the list goes on. It’s bad when the Miz has credibility telling you to calm the fuck down…

I (Jason) have a worker friend who has been back stage at WWE events and he told me that Enzo was less of a Certified G than he was a Certified D. The guy had a reputation.

Now it comes out that he supposedly raped a girl. Given, there are reports about the validity of the girl’s comments because she also has a reputation – and let’s not kid ourselves, there are people out there, both male and female, that have been known to take advantage of a celeb they hooked up with. However, the narrative seems to fit Enzo and this is kind of icing on the cake. I’ll be interested to see what the investigation yields.

Bottom line on Enzo, WWE made the right call. Even if it comes out that the real one is innocent, it was only a matter of time before he imploded anyway. He certainly had great mic skills, but he hasn’t been entertaining in a long time – ever since he and Big Cass split up on Monday Night Raw in Evansville, Indiana. He had no respect for the business and he didn’t care that he’d made an enemy out of everyone in the locker room. It was a ticking time bomb and the WWE is better off without him. He’ll get some work on the indies for a while, but I don’t think any reputable companies will want anything to do with him.

raw 25

Raw 25 is in the books and I, for one am underwhelmed. I’m not going to go on a long rant about the things I didn’t like. Instead, I’m going to just give you a list of pros and cons. Overall, I’d grade the show with a solid B.

Likes:

  • The opening segment was awesome. Austin was good, but I was a big fan of the jokes. Vinny Mac was all big and bad til the rattlesnake showed up, then all of the sudden he was a member of AARP and lived in a retirement community. The icing on the cake was that he threw Shane under the bus for the first stunner. Stone Cold didn’t have to say a word.
  • Elias and Jericho were awesome together. Elias is really coming into his own as a character and also his guitar skills have improved drastically.
  • The APA segments.
  • The Manhattan Center was a nice touch. Bringing raw back to the place where it all began…very nostalgic, very cool.
  • Shawn Michaels trying to tell stories and getting shut down by Triple H. “I used to be the boss of this group, and now you’re the boss of everything.” That was a classic joke.
  • DX and The Club’s Too Sweet – I was pleased with that.

Dislikes:

  • Women’s throwaway match – whatever happened to putting women in compelling story lines and trying to make them relevant?
  • The fact that the APA Segments pay off was Heath Slater getting jobbed out to the Dudley’s. That could have been better.
  • John Cena vs. Elias. Good match, what sense did it make? I’m even ok with Cena going under to Elias. I just don’t know why the match happened, especially when it looked like they set him up to fight Jericho.
  • Scott Hall coming out as Razor Ramon in NWO garb.
  • The burial of the Revival. This would have been a better spot for the Ascension. Fuck the Revival, I guess.
  • The Undertaker’s promo – Is he coming back or not?
  • The end segment could have been longer and told a better story. All the elements were there, but it just felt like it was lacking something.

All in all, Raw 25 was a fun ride, and more eventful, certainly, than a run-of-the-mill episode of Raw, but I think it over promised and under delivered.

On another note, I haven’t watched Smackdown this week so if someone would like to write a Smackdown review, send it to us at 10countblog@gmail.com!

10 Count Podcast Episode 61 – Arron Brooks

It’s the first 10 Count Podcast of 2018 and we’re kicking off the new year in a big way. Well, a medium sized way. Wait, should we say that? Or should we let this week’s guest say that?

This week’s guest is Arron Brooks, formerly known as AT Brooks. And the reference to medium sized, well let’s just say this dude has no shame, as you’ll find out in this week’s episode as he and I chat.

Arron and I are recently acquainted through SNPW and we’ve had 2 matches together.  And in just a couple months, I’ve grown to think of him as a friend and mentor. However, during this episode, I learned a lot about him; like the fact that this dude was a cage fighter. I also just threw caution to the wind and asked him, “what’s with the power rangers gimmick, bro.” It’s definitely a fun episode.

You may have also noticed, we’re going with a different look for the new year. From now on, we’re going to have the audio player at the top of the page rather than the bottom. Just a small change that we think will make a big difference.

Drunk Tank Episode 3 – Cody Beale

Two in a row? What are we thinking?

Madrox is back with the third episode of the Drunk Tank. And much like the last episode this conversation does NOT take place under the influence of extreme amounts of hard liquor. In fact, this may be the tamest episode to date. Madrox has assured us that it’s very PG and, in fact, quite an inspirational story.

Be that as it may… The views and opinions expressed in this episode do NOT necessarily reflect the views of 10 Count Blog, it’s Ownership, management or staff.

Drunk Tank Episode 2 – Zane Arkham

Oh no, there goes the neighborhood. Michael Madrox is back with another episode of the Drunk Tank.

On this episode, Madrox’s guest is Zane Arkham. And not to take away from the mistique of this show, but the guys aren’t actually drunk in this episode. In fact, there was no alcohol involved.

Be warned, this may not be for the faint of heart. Madrox brings his brand of shoot style interviewing to this episode and it can get kind of ugly and sometimes personal.
