Holy crap! We still have a print format?
Yes, yes we do. Thanks to everyone who has supported our podcast over the last few weeks. It’s been a blast to put it together and do some really interesting interviews. We look forward to the exciting things that are to come.
But for right now, let’s focus on this Saturday night. Tri-State Wrestling presents Tag Team Warfare from the Vincennes Eagles Lodge on Willow Street and it’s sure to be a fantastic show. We’ve been given the great honor of being allowed to reveal the entire match card for this weekend and rather than just put together a Facebook post or tweed with the list, we’re going to go all out and provide some pre-show predictions.
So, hang on baby Jesus, it’s gonna get bumpy.
Match 1: Singles Match Scheduled for one fall – Exodus the Executioner Vs. X Calibur
What a way to kick off the show. This is a rematch from February’s Proving Grounds and I have a feeling X Calibur is going to be looking for a little payback. In case you missed it, the last time these two met, Exodus, realizing he was in trouble, pulled out a set of brass knuckles and clocked the high flyer – leading to his disqualification.
Don’t look for a no finish this time around. X Calibur knows his game now and will be prepared for whatever the blood spitting big man will throw at him. Look for some high-flying, up-tempo offense from X to keep the big man off-balance and once he gets him down, that signature standing moonsault which I’m going to dub the “X-Sault.”
Jason’s Prediction – X Calibur via pinfall.
Eric’s Prediction – X Calibur
Match 2: Singles Match Scheduled for one fall – The Banshee vs. Venum
I’ll be completely honest, I haven’t seen too much out of either of these performers, but their reputations alone make this one a big match. Banshee is coming off a tag-team loss to the Southern Shiners in March and you can bet that he’s going to be seething. Venum is going to have his hands full. Look for some really technical wrestling in this one and some big moments.
Jason’s Prediction – Banshee via pinfall
Eric’s Prediction -Banshee
Match 3 – Tag Team Match Scheduled for One Fall The Devil Dogs Sargent Stanley Roberts and Private Roberts vs. The Axis Abdual Merrick and Yusev Bey Merrick
If I’ve learned one thing in my life, it’s that you do not piss off a United States Marine. Abdual and Yusev poked the dragon last month at Proving Grounds by bringing in the Sarge’s son and if there’s one thing you can believe, it’s that Stanley’s going to come out fired up. It’s one thing to disrespect a man’s flag, beat him with a chair and cheat him out of his title, but the Merricks made it personal when they attacked his family.
The Merricks are going to try to play dirty with some help from Sweet Daddy B, and in the paraphrased words of the immortal Undertaker “They’re gonna have to.” Stanley is going to be a starving bulldog let off the chain the minute he sets foot in this match. The Sarge has also been working daily with Private Roberts to get him ready for this test and I wouldn’t be surprised if he is right there beside dad the entire time. If the Roberts’ can neutralize outside interference, they’ll be tough to beat because an angry Marine is a Dangerous Marine.
Jason’s Prediction – The Devil Dogs and Private Roberts gets the pinfall.
Eric’s Prediction – The Devil Dogs
Match 4: Tag Team Match Scheduled for One Fall – Will Bray and Hunter Love vs. Zach Hogan and Matt Diamond
Will and Zach opened the show with the match of the night in March for the TSW World Heavyweight Championship. It was a barn burner. Will seemingly won the title, but in the midst of the celebration, the match was restarted because Sweet Daddy B and Bareback Jack pulled Zach’s foot under the ropes.
They get their rematch this month, but also get to showcase their ability in a tag match. Will is teamed up with Hunter Love who’s fresh off a loss to Terrance for the TSW Southern Championship. He’s going to be looking to rebound and get back in the title hunt so expect him to go all out in this match. Zach is teamed up with Matt Diamond, who’s also fresh off a loss last month in which he subbed in for the injured Patrik Taylor in the Chaos Carnival vs Johnnie Watts and Dawn.
Look for some high-flying, big spots, and some interference from Sweet Daddy B and Bareback Jack. If Will and Hunter can overcome that adversity, I look for this match to burn the place down.
Jason’s Prediction – Will and Hunter via pinfall
Eric’s Prediction – Will and Hunter (but with interference from outside)
Match 5: TSW Southern Championship Open Challenge – Terrance vs. ???
Terrance got out of March’s Proving Grounds with a win over Hunter Love in his latest title defense and this month he’s issued an open challenge to anyone in the locker room who believes they’re up to the challenge.
Terrence is a great technical wrestler and has some big moves in his arsenal. But I’m curious how that’s going to help him when he’s had no way to prepare for what’s coming.
Initially, my inclination was to say that X Calibur would answer the call, since he’s fresh off a victory in the first ever proving grounds match – but that would require him to pull double duty and that would be a tall order after going toe to toe with Exodus.
Another guy who I could see stepping up to take a shot is Anderson Grimm. Or maybe the Don Tony V. It’s a tossup.
The only real question here, though, is who do you take; Terrance or the field?
Jason’s Prediction – Terrance
Eric’s Prediction – The Field
Match Six: Singles Match for the AWA Memorial Title – Cliff Compton Vs. Benny Bray
Word on the street is that Benny Bray paid to have Cliff Compton come take a shot at the title. And while normally, I would call it the epitome of foolishness to put your title on the line against a former WWE Superstar, something about this match intrigues me.
Maybe it’s the fact that they worked together in OVW, or that Benny is riding high after his dominant title defense against Tony V last month. Whatever it is, it takes balls to put your title on the line against a man of Cliff’s pedigree – especially when you know that if he wins, its gone. And we take nothing away from Benny. He’s a bruiser and knows how to beat guys down. You can’t forget that his resume looks damn good in comparison. I look for this to be a candidate for match of the night and possibly match of the year.
Jason’s Pick – Benny Bray
Eric’s Pick – Cliff Compton
Match Seven: Tag Team Warfare – The Juggernauts (Michael Madrox and Mike Blitz) vs. Dawn The Ref and Johnnie Watts vs. Big T Thomas Moore and Shawn Franklin vs. The 381 Family (D.O.C and Rough Rider Roy).
It’s the return of Michael Madrox and if history is any indicator, this one could get ugly. Don’t believe me? Check out this video posted to our Facebook page.
Don’t count out Johnnie and Dawn either. A lot of people don’t realize that Dawn could be the sleeper in all of this. Most don’t remember or just don’t know she’s got connections to the Moondogs and that could be an x factor in this match – and don’t forget Johnnie Watts may be silly, but he’s a beast in the ring. I hear he’s got one heck of a Canadian Destroyer in his arsenal.
DOC and Rough Rider Roy will be an interesting dynamic. They’re coming off a friendly match in February with the Southern Shiners and they’re well rested. I know I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of one of DOC’s chops.
Big T is going to be in a bad mood too. He got screwed in the Proving Grounds match last month when Anderson Grimm made it look like he got knocked out with the cowbell. I look for him to channel his inner Stan Hansen and really make some noise.
Jason’s pick – Johnnie And Dawn
Eric’s Pick – 381 Family
Main Event – Tag Team Street Fight for the TSW Tag Team Championships Chaos Carnival (Blaine Black and ???) Vs. The Southern Shiners (Matt Dawson and Luke Wilder)
The first question we have to ask about this match is who is going to fill in for the Injured Patrik Taylor. We all know Blaine is an animal that is just as likely to tear his partner apart as he is his opponent. So, we ask who would be brave enough to try to mitigate that risk for a shot at glory? Just like in the Southern Championship open challenge, there are a lot of possibilities. The Don, Grimm, Phuzz Malakai, Xander Kelly, the Reaper. All are viable contestants. Maybe even Bareback Jack – in an attempt to stack the deck a little.
The Shiners are hungry. The last two Proving Grounds, they’ve had their hands on the gold. They can almost taste it like the DewShine they have at their merch table and whatever is in that jar they bring to the ring.
I look for Blaine to use anything and everything he can get his hands on and shoulder most of the responsibility for defending the tag titles. Add in the street fight element and this one could get out of hand quick. If he does, the Shiners will have an opportunity to capitalize and walk out with the belts.
Jason’s Pick – Southern Shiners
Eric’s pick – Southern Shiners
