I wasn’t sure if I was excited for Extreme Rules this year as some of the stipulations were kind of silly. All in all, it was pretty good. Though it had its usual stinkers, the action was intense and unpredictable throughout the show, something WWE has had troubles with as of late. Here’s a match by match look at last night’s Extreme Rules.
Apollo Crews vs. Kalisto
This match was way better than it should’ve been. Combine its silly storyline with it’s place on the card and this match was almost dead-to-rites out of the gate…but these two came out and crushed it. I was thoroughly entertained by the pairing and loved the tidbits with Titus as well. I hope this wasn’t the last of this feud because it seems like it’s going to do all involved a lot of favors.
RESULT: KALISTO via Pinfall
RATING: 8/10
DEAN AMBROSE VS. THE MIZ: INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP
In a lackluster feud with a terrible stipulation, these two tore the house down. It’s a shame that Ambrose seems to put the most work into a title reign when it comes to an end because he was motivated in this match and it really gave him a lot of fire, something he has been lacking for awhile. Miz was great, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone. These two played to the stip very well. Now the IC title is home.
RESULT: THE MIZ via Pinfall to win the IC Title for the 7th Time
RATING: 8.5/10
ALICIA FOX & NOAM DAR vs. SASHA BANKS & RICH SWANN
All I’ll say is that this match was fine…a little sloppy but fine. But considering the show that Crews and Kalisto put on…this match had a nice spot on the Preshow.
RESULT: SWANN&BANKS via Pinfall
RATING: 6.5/10
ALEXA BLISS VS. BAYLEY: KENDO STICK ON A POLE- WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
This was absolutely awful. This booking makes me wonder if the women are any better off than they were before the “Revolition”. Five minutes and terrible stipulation later, you have a serious “Worst Match of the Year” Contender. This was bad.
RESULT: ALEXA BLISS via Pinfall
RATING: 4/10; Serious Contender for Worst MOTY
THE HARDY BOYZ VS SHEAMUS AND CESARO: STEEL CAGE- RAW TAG TEAM TITLES
This match started slow, but by the end they had the place rocking and rolling. Some of the in-sync stuff at the beginning of the match was kind of silly and had the look of a multiplayer match in a 2k game. This match wasn’t as brutal as I thought it’d be but rather it was a fair exchange. The ending with Jeff coming back into the mix only to be the one to lose was very interesting. No sign of Brokeness yet.
RESULT: SHEAMUS AND CESARO hit the floor first to become 2-Time Raw Tag Champs
RATING: 8.5/10
NEVILLE VS AUSTIN ARIES: SUBMISSION- CRUISERWEIGHT
This was an excellent display of 1-on-1 Pro Wrestling. If you want to show someone learning what a good wrestling match looks like, then show them this. Not a whole lot of twists and turns, just some brutal grounded offense and a mix of both of their breathtaking aerials. I think this feud is over…and it’s a damn shame. It was a great feud while it lasted.
RESULT: NEVILLE retains via Submission
RATING: 8.75/10
BRAY WYATT VS FINN BÁLOR VS ROMAN REIGNS VS SAMOA JOE VS SETH ROLLINS: UNIVERSAL TITLE #1 CONTENDER
“A match that could change the course of the New Era”. Did it? Maybe. Only time will tell. A really really good match was needed and it delivered. Again, another slow, weird start, but it was excellent in its last 10 minutes or so. It now makes perfect sense why they built Finn Balor up so much. Samoa Joe was the odd duck in this match, as in the leasy accomplished of the bunch. To make BALOR, the obvious favorite in this match, pass out really does a lot for Joe. Joe really needed a match like this. Now we will see what Joe/Lesnar will be like at…Great Balls of Fire (ffs). Great stuff from everyone. Organic and gradual heel turn by Roman is getting two thumbs up from me.
RESULT: SAMOA JOE via TKO
RATING: 9.5/10
